Module only. The Boss Pro Lockable Mount and Starlink Mini are not included.
The Boss Thermal Protection Power Module combines regulated 30 V power conversion and automatic fan-assisted cooling in one integrated system for the Boss Pro Lockable Mount for Starlink Mini.
The module converts a suitable 12 V or 24 V vehicle, canopy, caravan or auxiliary battery supply into a regulated 30 V output. Based on Boss Aluminium’s real-world experience, 30 V provides the optimum setup for reliable vehicle-mounted Starlink Mini operation and matches the output voltage of the standard Starlink power supply.
Twin thermostatically controlled cooling fans automatically activate when the internal temperature reaches the preset level. The fans increase airflow through the mount and help move warm air away from the Starlink Mini and associated electronics. When additional cooling is not required, the fans remain switched off, minimising unnecessary power consumption and noise.
The complete system mounts neatly inside the Boss Pro Lockable Mount, keeping the power converter, thermostat, fans and associated wiring contained within the aluminium housing.
The Starlink Mini and its associated electronics generate heat while operating. This can become more noticeable during long operating periods, hot weather, stationary use or installations where natural airflow is limited.
The Thermal Protection Power Module uses a preset thermostat to monitor the temperature inside the mount. When the activation temperature is reached, the twin cooling fans switch on automatically and increase airflow through the housing. Once additional cooling is no longer required, the thermostat switches the fans off again. No manual fan control is required.
The system is designed to support normal Starlink Mini operation by improving airflow around the unit. It does not refrigerate the Starlink Mini or guarantee a specific internal operating temperature.
Although the Starlink Mini accepts a 12–48 V DC input, it requires a similar amount of power regardless of the supply voltage. As voltage decreases, the current required increases. At approximately 60 W, the Starlink Mini may require around:
Higher current places additional load on cables, plugs, sockets and electrical connections. This is particularly important with cigarette-lighter-style plugs and sockets, which may not be suitable for sustained higher-current operation.
By converting the supply into a regulated 30 V output close to the mount, the Thermal Protection Power Module helps reduce current and voltage drop on the Starlink-side lead while providing consistent voltage to the Starlink Mini. This helps reduce unexpected dropouts or restarts caused by insufficient voltage reaching the unit.
The purpose-built black powder-coated mounting system installs inside a compatible Boss Pro Lockable Mount using the supplied mounting hardware.
Once installed, connect the integrated Anderson plug to a suitable fused 12 V or 24 V DC supply and connect the integrated power lead to the Starlink Mini.
The module can be selected with a new Boss Pro Lockable Mount or fitted later to a compatible Thermal Protection System Ready mount.
This is the Thermal Protection Power Module only. The Boss Pro Lockable Mount and Starlink Mini are not included.
For regulated 12 V–24 V to 30 V power conversion without thermostatically controlled cooling, choose the Boss Step-Up Power Module for Pro Lockable Starlink Mini Mount.
