From the first prototype to more than 8,000 units supplied, the Boss Starlink Mini Mount story is built on real-world testing, harsh Australian conditions and a passion for designing products that work properly. With accumulated customer use likely well into the tens of millions of kilometres, this is a product range proven by travellers, fleets, emergency services, mining operations, government departments and remote workers where reliable communication matters.
Before the Starlink Mini was released in Australia, we were already using the original generation Starlink on our own remote travels.
In 2023, we travelled up to Far North Queensland, down the east coast, across to Western Australia and back again. The original Starlink worked, but it required more space, more power, and it was not the easiest system to set up and use while travelling.
That experience showed us just how valuable satellite internet could be in remote Australia. It also made it clear that when the Starlink Mini arrived, it would need a far better mounting solution.
We purchased our first Starlink Mini in August 2024 and immediately started designing the mount. The goal was simple. Build the strongest, cleanest and most reliable Starlink Mini mounting system we could bring to market.
We developed the first mount in-house and completed the design registration before release. From the start, the idea behind the original mount was modularity and flexibility. We wanted a mounting system for people who did not necessarily have a roof rack, or who wanted to move their Starlink Mini quickly from vehicle to vehicle, from vehicle to caravan, or even onto a boat.
That is why the original concept was built around flexibility. It could be adapted to suit different mounting methods, including magnetic feet and SeaSucker vacuum mounting options, allowing quick deployment and easy removal when needed.
Before we released anything, we tested it properly.
Our first major trip with the mount covered more than 15,000 km across some of the harshest conditions Australia has to offer. That testing included remote travel, beach driving, serious corrugations, tight bush tracks, thunderstorms, hail, dust, heat and extended periods off grid, including crossing the Nullarbor and spending days in 40-degree conditions.

That trip was not just about proving the mount. It also helped refine it. While travelling and testing, we made updates and improvements to the unit’s design based on real-world use. Even before release, we had multiple versions being tested across our own vehicles, and the accumulated testing over time is now well over 150,000 km.

We tested different protective screens, design changes and mounting approaches to create the product range we have today.
One of the biggest advantages of the Starlink Mini, and Starlink products in general, is that they are a genuine game changer for remote communications. In many situations, they can reduce the need to rely on a satellite phone as your primary means of communication.
On earlier trips through Central Australia, we found satellite phones were not always the most convenient or reliable option. They were expensive to buy, the handset technology often felt outdated, and they limited what you could do. Starlink changed that.
With the Starlink Mini, you have Wi-Fi connectivity, the ability to connect multiple users, full video calling, email, banking, media access, file transfer and general internet use, all from a compact unit with a built-in router and simple 12-volt power options.
It is also a major safety advantage. When you are remote, the ability to contact family, coordinate work, access maps, look up information, troubleshoot a problem online, contact emergency services, or use AI tools to help solve an issue provides a new level of functionality and peace of mind.
A great example of this in real-world use was Michael Ellem from Offroad Images during the 50-year ARB anniversary event. He ran one of our mounts with a Starlink Mini and had multiple people connected through that one setup. At night, they were able to upload large amounts of photo and video content captured during the day and send it back to their studio in New South Wales for editing.
Normally, that kind of workflow may have required waiting until they reached a town or a more reliable connection point. Instead, they could stay productive while remaining fully remote.
That is exactly why we saw so much value in the Starlink Mini. We needed to create a way to mount it securely, protect it properly and make it practical for real-world use. The last thing you want is damage to an important piece of communication technology when you are relying on it for safety, work and connection.
By late 2024, the Boss Starlink Mini Mount had been designed, registered and released to market. It was a great success, and we believe we were first to market with a properly engineered, high-quality Australian-made Starlink Mini mounting system that had been thoroughly tested in real-world conditions.
Since then, the range has continued to grow.
We have developed suction-mounted options for users who do not have roof racks or who want a quick temporary mounting solution. We have developed lockable versions for added security and easy removal for servicing or setup changes. We have also developed integrated power solutions to make powering the Starlink Mini simple and reliable.
Today, we have built and supplied more than 8,000 units into the real world. Our mounts have been sent worldwide and are used across thousands of private, commercial, fleet and government applications.
With more than 8,000 mounts supplied into real-world use, the accumulated distance across Boss customers is likely well into the tens of millions of kilometres. Across customer vehicles, caravans, fleets, emergency services, mining operations and remote travellers, Boss Starlink mounts are being proven every day in the same harsh conditions they were originally designed for.
Boss Starlink mounts are used by customers across touring, caravanning, 4WD, marine, farming, telecommunications, mining, remote worksites, emergency services, commercial fleets and government departments. From SES, CFA and Police applications through to mining and remote industry use, reliable communication is not a luxury. It is an essential part of safety, coordination and daily operations.
That is why our mounts are built to protect the Starlink Mini properly, keep it ready to use and handle the vibration, heat, dust and harsh conditions that come with real field use.
Our mounts are also trusted by people who spend serious time in remote conditions and understand the importance of reliable equipment. Jase from All 4 Adventure runs Boss Starlink mounts, and Molly Dixon has also been running our mounts and relies on them daily. Along with thousands of customers across Australia and around the world, they trust Boss mounts because they are built to protect an important piece of communication equipment when it matters most.
Along the way, multiple companies have tried to replicate what we created, but they have fallen short. Our products are not just made to look good. They are built on genuine experience, properly tested, refined through real use and designed to last.
That has always been the Boss way.
Our passion is building and designing high-quality products that do the task properly, not just look pretty. They need to be functional, durable and built for the long term. That is what we have built our brand on, and that is exactly what the Boss Starlink Mini Mount range represents today.
Deeper detail on the engineering, features and options — expand any topic below.
Many Starlink Mini mounting solutions simply provide a way to attach the antenna to a vehicle. At Boss Aluminium, we wanted to create something more than just a mount.
The Boss Pro Lockable Mount was developed to combine premium physical protection, key-locking security, integrated power options and optional thermal management into one complete Australian-made mounting system.
Development began by digitally scanning the Starlink Mini and designing the housing in advanced 3D CAD around the exact dimensions of the unit. Multiple prototypes were then manufactured, tested and refined through extensive real-world use across Australian touring routes, corrugated roads and harsh environmental conditions.
The result is a premium mounting system built for touring, caravanning, commercial fleets, emergency services, government vehicles, mining, marine and remote-area applications where reliable communication and equipment protection matter.
Today, thousands of Boss Starlink mounts are in service across Australia and around the world, helping customers stay connected wherever their journey takes them.
The Boss Pro Lockable Mount uses a heavy-duty stainless-steel compression cam lock with a larger grip, making it easier to open and close without placing unnecessary force on the key.
Unlike a standard key-operated cam lock, the compression mechanism pulls the hinged lid firmly into position as it closes, helping reduce movement and rattling during travel.
We also replace the lock’s standard cam catch with a purpose-built 6 mm laser-cut stainless-steel locking plate, providing a stronger, more durable and secure locking point for demanding off-road and remote-area use.
The Boss Pro Lockable Mount is Thermal Protection Mounting System Ready, allowing it to accept the optional Boss Thermal Protection Power Module.
Unlike basic fan kits, the Boss Thermal Protection Power Module combines integrated 12V–30V power conversion with thermostatically controlled, twin IP67-rated dual-ball-bearing cooling fans. Built for reliable operation in demanding outdoor conditions, the fans automatically activate only when required.
Rather than running continuously, the fans switch on when the internal temperature reaches a preset level, improving airflow through the housing while minimising unnecessary power consumption and noise.
Thermal management is beneficial in more than just extreme summer temperatures. Electronic equipment naturally generates heat during operation, particularly over extended periods. Additional airflow can help reduce heat build-up and support more consistent operating temperatures across a wide range of environments.
Off-road touring, corrugated roads and continuous vehicle movement place constant stress on sensitive electronic equipment.
The Boss Pro Lockable Mount incorporates a purpose-designed internal anti-vibration mounting system that helps isolate the Starlink Mini from ongoing vibration while securely supporting the unit inside the housing.
Combined with the rigid marine-grade aluminium construction, this system helps reduce transmitted vibration and provides additional protection for both the Starlink Mini and optional internal power components during demanding travel conditions.
The Boss Pro Lockable Mount has been designed so customers can configure the system to suit their individual requirements.
